Having an unfavorable credit report can cause you a lot of trouble starting with the inability of obtaining reasonable interest rates when applying for a loan. If you had trouble in the past with repaying your loans, with paying on time or dealt with any other debt problems, your credit score is probably a lot smaller than you would like it to be. In case you had to declare bankruptcy, for example, that would cut down your score by at least 200 points. Debt solutions such as debt settlement or debt management applied to your repayment issues also affect your credit score. Having accounts left open or overdue is a negative sign as well. The biggest problem is that this information remains on your credit report for many years, making lenders question your creditworthiness and reliability.
What you can do in order to boost your credit report is credit repair. First, you need to ask your credit bureau to hand out a copy of your credit report. Verify the information listed and make sure they are accurate and current. If you had accounts open or overdue before a bankruptcy, make sure they are reported as included. Errors can easily be committed, inadvertently and unawares. All you have to do is justify your claims and prove everything with official documents. Credit repair can boost your score and provide you better chances with lenders.
However, credit repair should not be effectuated in order to remove bankruptcies, liens and negative information despite being current and accurate. It is illegal, although many companies advertise clearing your credit report forever. There is a fraud involved, so don’t fall for it. You can easily recognize a credit repair swindle by taking a close look to what the company has to offer and what restrictions they have. In case they advise you not to contact the major national credit reporting companies, or to invent a new credit identity, it is obvious they would only mix you up in their illegal actions. You could be charged and prosecuted for fraud in case you were caught. If the company claiming to remove all the negativity from your report doesn’t enumerate your rights, you can be sure there is something bad going on. Another warning sign is that they want to charge you fees for their services before they provide any. Bear in mind that a legitimate credit report should not cost you anything. It is your right to discuss the issues with the consumer reporting companies and ask for upgrading your information in case some errors occurred. Be careful with your rights and responsibilities! Do some research before considering legal actions and don’t fall for everything that seems to be beneficial to you financial situation. Remember: not all that glitters is gold.
